wienwood 15 | Wood Construction Award | Awards for 3 Projects with binderholz Products

proHolz Austria, in cooperation with the City of Vienna and the Centre of Architecture Vienna, awarded prizes to outstanding wooden buildings in the federal capital. Out of 76 entries, five awards and six winners were declared. Three submitted projects, where binderholz products were used, received awards. The submitted project, Residential Development Breitenfurter Straße, received a wienwood award. The two residential developments, Mühlweg - Phase A and Wagramer Straße, each received an award.

Award Winner Breitenfurter Straße | Residential Development with Modern Wood Construction Engineering
The housing on Breitenfurter Straße in Vienna is further evidence of the benefits and strengths of solid wood construction. At a high-traffic intersection on the foot of the slope of the Maurerberg, the complex surprises with an exemplary residential environment. Designers and developers did not want to experiment, but present modern wood construction engineering under the constraints of social housing in the best possible light. The position and proportion of the wings, well placed arbours as noise buffers, integrated areas for children and seniors, green courtyards bordering on forest on the slope, views of the south and west from the balconies: everything is just right. Build on solid basements, the floors rise as a wooden structure through and through. The structure constructed with binderholz CLT BBS and wood frame engineering is only partially visible due to fire and noise protection standards: outside on the arbours, balconies, in the attic and inside - solved with technical innovation - and generally on the ceilings of the flats. Maximum of quality was thus created within tight constraints.

The goal of wienwood is to raise awareness of the high design qualities of wood construction and its ecological and climate-friendly properties. Wood is a renewable resource with the ability to remove carbon dioxide from the air: 1 m³ wood used in construction binds 1 tonne of CO2. The goal of this wood construction award for Vienna is to raise awareness, and increase use, of the potential of wood as an urban and also CO2 neutral building material.
