2) TRANSPORT Once containers are loaded, they will be transported to the port and loaded onto the vessel. Shipping companies provide a tracking link to follow the status of the containers. When the vessel arrives at the port of entry, the containers are unloaded from the vessel and the entry is processed by an external freight forwarding agent. This freight forwarding agent has to be hired by the client and will not be organized by binderholz. Once the entry is cleared, the port allows a certain period for pick up before demurrage charges are incurred. If the container is selected for a customs inspection, there will be a delay of few days to a week. This inspection is out of binderholz control and therefore binderholz can’t be responsible for any delays that may be caused by them. If no inspections are needed, the containers are released for delivery within few days from the docking date. The pick-up of the container has to be organized by the client or binderholz, depending on the negotiated delivery terms. Even if binderholz is organizing the door delivery, the freight forwarding agent has to coordinate the exact pick up dates with the trucking company and the exact arrival dates with the client, respectively with the client’s job supervisor. 3) UNLOADING When the container arrives at the site, the receiving crew can break the seal and open the container. Before unloading can start, it is important to visually inspect the load to see if anything has shifted and to see if any possible damage may have occurred in transit. If so, pictures should be taken to document the condition of the load. It is also critical to constantly monitor the position of the packages and verify that they are secured in place before anyone approaches during the unloading process. Special attention must be placed to the vertical packages, which may become unstable when neighboring packages are removed from the container. Unloading of the packages can be done by different ways. The local job supervisor will be responsible for all unloading procedures, for safety and for deciding to use the right equipment for unloading the panels. Usually packages will be directly loaded onto the floor of the container (no dunnage in between). The unloading can be done either with screws and slings (package by package) or with a steel bracket.
