The Business Premises of Kost Kamm, Windelsbach | Germany

An elongated newbuild with flat roof, wooden facade and panoramic windows: these are the new business premises of Kost Kamm, constructed using binderholz cross laminated timber CLT BBS. The building was given recognition by the jury for the “Deutscher Holzbaupreis” (German Timber Construction Award) by winning an award in the “New Construction” category. The jury commended the development for blending harmoniously into the village environment whilst still clearly identifying itself as a production site.

BBS in Visual Quality

All building materials are made using solid wood products. Indoors, ‘binderholz CLT BBS’ cross-laminated timber was processed to visual quality. The outer walls are insulated with soft wood fibre boards and then finished with a white-fir façade. Even the BBS parts cut out of the walls to create window openings are repurposed as worktables. The building forms part of Martin Kost’s comb-making factory where approximately 35,000 wooden combs are produced in the workshop each year.

Award

The Kost Kamm build was recognised by the German Timber Construction Awards by winning an award in the category “New Construction”:
The award ceremony for the German Timber Construction Awards 2019 took place on the 28th May at the Hannover Messe where 157 projects were submitted and registered for preliminary examination. The jury identified via several rounds of selection, those companies who were to receive recognition awards and those to receive the overall awards. All the submissions were extremely impressive setting some very high standards in the field.
