The new global headquarters of Under Armour, the renowned manufacturer of sportswear and footwear, was built in the port of Baltimore, USA. The office space is divided into 5 floors. The offices are accessed by stairwells and lifts via four concrete cores. Apart from these cores, the entire supporting structure of the building is made of wood. The surfaces of all internal solid timber components (CLT BBS and Glulam BSH) remain visible, creating a comfortable and relaxing working environment while showcasing Under Armour‘s commitment to sustainability.

Efficient production and installation were key components considered during the structural engineering and project planning process. For example, only two different CLT BBS slab thicknesses and a small number of standard glulam dimensions were utilised for the columns and beams. All elements were sized to meet a fire resistance rating of 90 minutes. Efficient installation was ensured by the use of repetitive details and the use of binderholz‘s propriety and well established b_fix connection.

All material was transported from Austria to German‘s northern ports via rail. From there, it reached the port of Baltimore, which is situated just a few kilometers from the construction site. To ensure smooth and timely delivery, the elements were temporarily stored in a warehouse for an average of 2 weeks, before being retrieved just-in-time by the construction site.
