New ETA-06/0009 for binderholz CLT BBS

5 important innovations were achieved with the approval

3-ply solid wood panels may be used as a load-bearing layer for our CLT BBS with immediate effect. This means that the conventional visible top layer may be replaced by a 3-ply solid wood panel of the same thickness. This enables us to further develop the varied range of our binderholz 3-ply panels for BBS.

Many years of research and development relating to BBS and the use of the raw material has now led to the modulus of elasticity of the BBS being increased to 12,000 N/mm², which results in major benefits when calculating the deformation of BBS. Increasing the rigidity of BBS results in a lower deflection value, for example, which can lead to cost savings in the construction of projects. The shear carrying capacity of BBS is generally determined by the rolling shear strength of the transverse layers. With immediate effect it is possible to assume an increased value of 1.0 N/mm² in the calculation.

The thermal conductivity of a material is its capacity to transport thermal energy by means of conductance. The lower the figure, the harder it is for the materials to transport heat. This means in our case that BBS conducts heat very badly and thus has an excellent insulating effect. With its now improved thermal conductivity of 0.12 W/(m*K), BBS has considerably improved thermal conductivity compared to other construction materials, such as bricks with 1.00 W/(m*K) or concrete with 2.10 W/(m*K).

Another new aspect of Appendix 5 of the ETA-06/0009 is that the measurements of connecting fittings are now also listed. Reference is made to the use of different connecting equipment and their calculation modalities. An important consideration in this are the minimum spacings to be adhered to for optimum load bearing.
