Holzbaupreis Tirol 2015 | binderholz gets a Recognition in the “Export” category

4 Awards and 7 Recognitions for Tyrol's most beautiful timber structures
36 nominations for 4 Awards and 7 Recognitions in 7 categories were selected from among 125 submissions: proHolz Tirol bestowed the Holzbaupreis Tirol on January 29, 2015. The award ceremony took place with numerous guests and in the presence of the Vice-Governor of Tyrol, ÖR Josef Geisler, members of the government of Tyrol, Patrizia Zoller-Frischauf and Johannes Tratter, the President of the Chamber of Commerce Jürgen Bodenseer and other prominent personalities from the spheres of politics and industry.

Tremendous feedback with 125 entriesTogether with the Chamber of Architects and Consulting Engineers for Tyrol and Vorarlberg, proHolz Tirol for the fifth time in a row extended invitation to participate in the "Holzbaupreis Tirol" competition, which awards outstanding building projects in wood. With 125 entries, "Holzbaupreis Tirol 2015" was met again with a tremendous feedback. The award ceremony attracted a large amount of attention - a sign that wood plays a pivotal and ever growing role in architecture and the construction industry in general.

Synthesis of craftsmanship and architecture
In addition to the workmanship and material-appropriate design, the architectural quality formed the basis for the selection of the Awards and Recognitions, which were chosen from among the nominations. For several days in the fall of 2014, the 4-member panel of judges, chaired by architect Michael Schluder from Vienna, was busy reviewing and evaluating the 125 projects that had been submitted, including numerous on-site visits. "The submitted projects showed a high level of architectural and structural sophistication," said chairman Schluder.

Know-how transfer - Austrian building tradition for a revolutionary business park

Client: Ywood Business Nexity, Marseille, France
Planning: binderholz and Tangram Architectes with Atelier WOA, Fügen, and Marseille, France
Statics: Altibois Construction and Bainier Études, Groisy and Puyvert, France
Execution: Altibois Construction and Arbosphére, Groisy, France

In collaboration with Atelier WOA (France), the concept for a new generation of office and commercial buildings was developed under the name of Ywood Business. Thus the first business park with terraced buildings came into being in Aix-en-Provence, France, in late 2013. A total of five office buildings were built in timber and as plus-energy houses. The finished wall elements with the built-in windows, including sun protection, were installed at the construction site within a short time, directly from the truck. The CLT BBS remained visible facing inward and was painted white. A special feature of these buildings is their façades. At varying intervals, they have been attractively designed with round timber. The project showcases how the Austrian wood construction tradition can be exported with great success: in application, production and know-how transfer. A huge-volume modular architecture was implemented in a short building time. The project was given the Green Building Solution Award by Construction21 in 2014.
