News10 hybrid floors made of BBS & steel in London
Architects Hawkins / Brown were commissioned by Regal Homes to design the largest skyscraper in Europe to be built with CLT BBS, for which binderholz Building Systems together with the X-LAM Alliance supplied Austrian wood and know-how to the UK. Regal Homes has planning permission for a 10-storey residential building in London using a hybrid construction of BBS and steel with a usable space of 6,750 m², setting in this way new standards in solid wood construction. The property in the Wenlock Road in Hackney, East London, has a total of 4,650 m² of living space with 50 residential units and 1,190 m² of commercial space. Due to the unusual cruciform architecture, which is reminiscent of the Banyan tree in Asia, it offers an unrivalled light and terrace concept providing unique quality living in the middle of the metropolis, fitting perfectly into the Regent's Canal area of the city.
binderholz is supplying 1,400 m³ of CLT BBS, with their experience in solid wood construction impressing the clients. The building is clad with a slatted frame in larch and covered with brick tiles on the side facing the Wenlock Road.
