A pioneering school building made from solid timber

The building meets passive house standards and is shaped like an open angle, situated in the north-west of a 4,300 m2 plot. This creates a protected exterior area with a view of the existing woods as well as lots of space for varied playing outside under natural light and within sight of the school. Additionally, the exterior areas can be used as formal and informal places of learning.

The primary school's design includes several different zones. The activities provided by the zones vary from traditional lessons in small and large groups, practical and creative work, instructions and dialogue as well as focused individual teaching or collaboration. Differently sized rooms, a combination between open and closed areas, wall niches and varied furniture create a pleasant learning environment and flexibility.

The building's central stairwell with amphitheatre within is particularly popular with the students and is used for lessons as well as other activities including playing. It stretches across all storeys. An adjacent gymnasium was built in the south of the complex, which was completed in August of 2023. Using solid timber, the team was able to create an environmentally friendly and pioneering school building.
