Administration and Logistics Centre, Neumarkt | Germany

In Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, Hammerbacher GmbH built a new logistics hall 110 x 160 m in size accompanied by an administration building. The arched trusses with a span of 23 m were cut and coated at binderholz' Jenbach site and delivered fully premanufactured. One of the project's other highlights is its projecting canopy made from CLT BBS. In total, some 2,000 m³ of glulam and 600 m³ of CLT BBS were used.

The leading office furniture manufacturer had sought to establish a new branch built on sustainable principles in the south of Neumarkt in der Oberpflalz. This led to the creation of a modern logistics centre with adjacent administration building that merges ecological responsibilities with economic efficiency. The building was designed in such a way that it uses as little energy as possible, leaving behind a minimum carbon footprint. Heating is courtesy of a groundwater heat pump, while its large roof is lined with powerful solar panels to generate power on site.

Impressive logistics centre with glulam trusses

The first thing that onlookers notice about the logistics hall is its monumental size and striking wave-shaped roof, which was built using 182 arched glulam trusses with a span of 23 metres and a sturdy canopy made from CLT BBS. This design allows for maximum flexibility when it comes to utilising the interior space. The hall boasts approx. 18,000 m² of storage space with more than 8,200 pallet spaces, optimising the firm's logistics processes. A total of 19 loading docks ensure smooth inventory turnover and allow for lorries to be loaded and unloaded quickly.

The adjacent three-storey administration building is a hybrid structure with a ground floor made from solid concrete. The facade wows with a striking, X-shaped timber structure that makes the building unmistakable. The first floor and roof are supported by an elegant structure using exposed glulam beams and joists that are as functional as they are beautiful. The ceilings of the individual storeys consist of CLT BBS exposed at the bottom, creating a warm and productive work environment. Apart from its own exhibition space, the building also houses a modern cafeteria. Outside, one finds charging stations for electric cars and bicycles.

For us at the Jenbach site, this marked an ambitious project. Challenges included sawn timber sourcing and arched truss manufacture, handling from cutting to interim storage as well as the logistics of transporting them to the construction site.
